Yesterday, Google introduced Leanback, a new product that helps socialize and stream YouTube videos. You can stream music on the internet. Facebook pages also helps customize your internet experience by learning your preferences based upon basic information that you give them. Leanback combines these two functions to create a more personalized video watching experience. Users may set up an account and based upon preferences, have related video content streamed to them.
As this article on Silicon Alley Insider suggests, this is an interesting move on Google’s part. Besides meeting resistance at its introduction, Google Buzz was somewhat of a flop. They have perhaps learned a bit from Facebook and Pandora on how to enrich the user experience and socialize content. It’ll be interesting to see how well it is received.
